Youthful Restoration

A facelift in Chicago, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates the face, helping you look like a younger version of yourself. This popular anti-aging surgery reverses the effects of time by removing excess skin, lifting sagging facial tissues, and smoothing deep folds and wrinkles. This simple procedure allows you to achieve the following:

  • Rejuvenate your appearance
  • Look younger and more energized
  • Lift sagging facial skin
  • Soften folds and wrinkles
  • Contour the jawline

Would I Benefit from a Facelift?

As your face ages, it may begin to look less familiar to you when you look in the mirror. Your change in appearance may be due to a decrease in elastin and collagen levels in your skin. It could also be the result of putting on excess weight over the years. Whatever the case may be, a facelift can help lift sagging tissues and contour your features, so your reflection looks more like “you.”

You might benefit from a facelift if you have any of the following concerns:

  • Deepening folds that run between your nose and your mouth
  • Sagging facial skin
  • Hollows due to lost facial volume
  • A “turkey neck” (excess fat or loose skin around your neck)
  • Jowls

One of the most notable benefits of a surgical facelift is that it can target and reduce many common signs of aging at once. That means you won’t need to receive different treatments for each area of concern. You can reduce wrinkles, tighten up sagging skin, and minimize your double chin with a single procedure.

Facelift FAQ

Will people be able to tell I had a facelift?

Will I have to stay overnight after a facelift?

Will I have visible scars after my facelift?

Will people be able to tell I had a facelift?

The short answer is yes. You wouldn’t need a facelift if positive changes weren’t seen after surgery. What most people are concerned about is how long after will I look bruised, swollen, or post-surgical? Typically, within 2 weeks time you should be able to be out in public and people that don’t know you won’t be able to tell that you had a facelift. Of course, people that know you well will notice that your face looks more youthful and vibrant and after several months there won’t be obvious scars or other visible indications that you’ve had surgery.

Will I have to stay overnight after a facelift?

While our facelift surgery is performed in our own accredited surgical facility and it is considered outpatient, Dr. Epstein has most of his facelift patients stay overnight to reduce risk and achieve the best results. The procedure usually takes two hours and the patients recover in a quiet room with one to one nursing attention. Afterward, they can have a family member or friend drive them home to recover comfortably.

Will I have visible scars after my facelift?

At Concierge Aesthetics & Plastic Surgery, we use leading-edge techniques to make your surgical incisions as invisible as possible. Your surgeon will make the incisions along your hairline or behind the ear for concealment purposes. Your scars should be virtually undetectable once the treatment site is fully healed.

The Day of Your Procedure

A rhytidectomy is an outpatient surgery. After arriving at one of our accredited surgical centers, you will be prepared and then placed under monitored sedation by a board-certified anesthesiologist. During the surgery, incisions are strategically placed in natural skin folds, within the hairline and behind your ears. The underlying soft tissue is mobilized so it is repositioned to reshape the face and neck to create a more youthful appearance. Excess skin is trimmed as the skin is redraped over the newly contoured face and then the incisions are sutured closed.

Recovery and Results

In the first two weeks following surgery, your bruising and swelling will greatly subside and your final results become gradually more apparent. Most patients should feel comfortable returning to work after around two weeks, while residual swelling will continue to subside over more time.

Your results will be long-lasting, but keep in mind that the aging process continues as years pass. While a rhytidectomy can take years off your appearance, it cannot stop the aging process indefinitely. However, the results are quite significant and do effectively reverse the signs of age for years to come.
