If you’re a mother you know firsthand that your life changes drastically after having a baby. Your mind, body, and soul are put to the test in more ways than one. Pregnancy changes your family, sleeping habits, and of course… your body.
Just as every woman’s body responds differently to pregnancy, each also heals uniquely. It’s important to be gentle with yourself, to give yourself grace, ensuring your body has time to heal. It can feel tempting to jump back into rigorous workouts and calorie restricting diets to “get your body back” but this is a time for you to bond with your baby and nourish your body towards recovery. That timeline varies for everyone.
Once recovered, some women may not feel totally comfortable in their own skin and might want a little extra help to get back to feeling that pre-pregnancy confidence. A “Mommy Makeover” includes two or more surgeries intended to restore the shape, contour, and appearance of a woman’s body after pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding.
The two most common procedures associated with a Mommy Makeover are an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and mastopexy (breast lift ). A tummy tuck is an effective way to deal with stubborn fat and excess hanging skin of the abdomen. This is a popular procedure for mothers experiencing stretch marks, loose skin, or weakened abdominal muscles after pregnancy. During this procedure, excess skin and fat are removed and Dr. Epstein is able to tighten the internal abdominal muscles, leading to a firmer and flatter stomach.
Other popular “Mommy Makeover” procedures might include breast augmentation, liposuction, vaginal rejuvenation, or blepharoplasty (eyelid rejuvenation).
The are many reasons our patients pursue a Mommy Makeover, but here are a few of the most common:
Diet and exercise hasn't been enough
A balanced diet and a regular exercise routine does wonders for your health and will likely help you shed the majority of pregnancy weight — but it won’t magically make your breasts return to their pre-baby shape or tighten all of the skin around your belly. Sometimes we need a little extra help and that’s okay!
Regain confidence
Have you heard the phrase “happy wife, happy life?” Well, it goes the same for “happy mom, happy kids.” When mom is feeling confident and happy it shows. Our kids pick up on our emotions more than we know. If your body confidence is holding you back from putting on a swimsuit to play at the beach with your loved ones, a Mommy Makeover could give you the confidence boost you need!
ONe surgery
A Mommy makeover is two or more surgeries in a single operation. This usually equates to a single anesthesia fee and facility fee, and is generally more cost effective than spacing procedures out over time.
